Perley Willard Sawyer, also referred to as "PW"., was born May 22, 1873 in Roxbury MA and
was the first of seven children of Charles Edmund Sawyer and Sarah (Willard) Sawyer.
His father was a superintendent of the Perkins factory of the Dennison Manufacturing Co. a paper
products Company.
They lived at 21 Oak St. Boston, MA. Perley attended the prestigiousRoxbury Latin School.
He was married to Miss Zoe E. Jones in 1893.
That same year he entered the employ of the Union Sandpaper Company of Boston and remained
with that concern for five years, acting as assistant to the general manager. In 1898 he went
to Chicago as assistant superintendent of the sandpaper
plant of Armour and Company and in 1903
he was promoted to superintendent, where he stayed for two years.
In 1906, Mr. Sawyer joined the Wausau Sandpaper Company as superintendent and general manager.
This company was merged with the Wausau Quartz Company and became Wausau Abrasives Company in 1914.
Perley was made president and general manager.
He remained with Wausau Abrasives until it was purchased by 3M Company in 1929. He continued to
work for 3M as a Division Manager in St. Louis until he retired.
Perley and Zoe had two children. The first born was Charles Edmund born on June 21, 1902.
He married Evelyn Grable and had two children Betty and William. The second was Marion born on
December 4, 1908. She became Marion Jones marring Robert Jones. They had two children
Valerie and Richard.
Perley died on Apr. 6, 1947 in Evanston, IL. Zoe died in 1960 in St. Charles, Wi.
