Edmund Sawyer was born in Newbury,Mass.. Nov. 6, 1714, a son of Samuel and Abigail (Goodridge) Sawyer of Newbury, Mass. His father died in 1723 and his mother in 1722, so that left him an orphan at an early age.

He married Sarah Rowell (b. 4 Oct, 1705 Amesbury MA, d. Jan. 1744 Hampstead NH), by Rev. Paine Wingate at the Second Parish Church of Amesbury, Mass. Jan. 1 1736 (Reg. intentions Nov. 22, 1735).

He joined the church (Second of Amesbury), June 13, 1736. They had 4 children. Their first two, Joseph and Jacob, were born in Amesbury. They move to Hampstead between 1738 and 1741 as birth records show that the third child, Enoch Sawyer was born 27 Dec 1741 in Hampstead. The fourth child was born 30 Jan 1744. However Sarah died in 1744, probably in child birth. Sarah and Edmund had only been married for about 8 years. The oldest child, Joseph would have been about 8 years old at the time.

It may have been when he actually bought the farm, but as birth records show that his second son Enoch Sawyer was Born 27 Dec 1741 in Hampstead, Rockingham, NH,

Edmmund Join the newly built Hempstead church and on Aug. 31 1749 he purchased two Meetin House Pews, one on the mens side and one on the womens side. It appears they were Congregationalists.
